Is there a 'correct' spelling of Straw Bale... or do I mean Strawbale?

Straw Bale or Strawbale?

How should Straw Bale / Strawbale be spelled?

I didn't think a dictionary would help, but I tried a major online one. It didn't have either.

Next I went to the site of Andrew Morrison, one of the experts in straw bale construction. His website spells it straw bale.

Well, fine, but just because he's a builder and straw bale DVD producer, does that mean he can spell? Probably...

Next, I went to a place called Wordtracker, where you can find out what words and phrases people use to find things online. I discovered that roughly twice as many people type in straw bale as the number who type in strawbale.

That's good enough for me: straw bale wins! But since about a third of the people who search for this kind of information type in strawbale, I will use both straw bale and strawbale on this website, so everyone will be more likely to find the pages!

Here's a link for more on this site about straw bale construction, and here's one for strawbale houses.

There's an old song: "You say tomAYto, I say tomAHto..." That's about pronunciation rather than spelling but I found myself humming it as I wrote this page.
