Building Concrete Slabs for Straw Bale Homes
Before
you can start building with the actual straw bales, you need a good concrete
slab, whether you are planning a straw bale home, garage, greenhouse,
cabin, or whatever.
Often
people hire someone to do the job of slab creation because it
just seems too overwhelming to tackle. There are so many details
you have to get just right or your strawbale project will be
in trouble...
That's
why I was pleased to discover that there's a good
how-to DVD on
building a perfect concrete foundation. It's explained in
terms that anyone can understand, not full of builders' jargon
that you may not be sure of. It explains the most current methods,
too.
I
think if I were hiring out the work for a straw bale home, I
would still want this DVD because I'd understand better how to
talk to my contractor about the project. If I were doing
it myself, I'd
watch the DVD a bunch of times... it covers all sorts
of things, from preparing the ground and attaching to an existing
building to details of fine finishing around the edges. It features
well-known straw bale expert Andrew Morrison.
